Mohs' Micrographic Surgery
Mohs' Micrographic Surgery is a specialized procedure for the removal of skin cancer. It is performed under local anesthesia in the office setting and has the highest cure rate for the treatment of cutaneous malignancy.  Our focus is to educate you on the prevention and early detection of skin cancer and, if necessary, provide you the optimal treatment for your skin cancer.

In addition to Mohs' Micrographic Surgery, we perform skin cancer screening examinations, a variety of surgical procedures on the skin, including removal of moles and cutaneous laser treatments.

Skin Cancer   Skin Cancer
Each year, more than 1.2 million Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer.  While skin cancer is not usually life threatening, if left untreated can progress to significant destruction, functional compromise, deformity, and possible death in the case of malignant melanoma.  The incidence of skin cancer has increased recently. Half of all new cancers in the United States are now skin cancer.

There are three main forms of skin cancer - Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Melanoma.  The most common type is Basal Cell Carcinoma which represents about 80% of all skin cancers. Squamous Cell Carcinoma is the next most frequent at 16% and Malignant Melanoma is the third most common at 4%.

Basal Cell and Squamous Cell cancers are generally curable with local surgical removal.  Melanoma may be curable when detected early, but can be fatal if allowed to spread.

Atlanta Dermatologic Surgery Consultants offers Mohs' micrographic surgery, the most advanced treatment for skin cancer.  This procedure offers the highest cure rate achievable while providing the best cosmetic impact on the patient.

Reconstructive Surgery
Mohs’ surgery preserves as much normal skin as possible which maximizes options for repairing the area where the skin cancer was removed.  Mohs’ fellowship training provides extensive experience in reconstruction, allowing for various repair choices, ranging from simple closures to complicated multi-step repairs.
